Overview
For this project, I took Frances Hodgson Burnett's A Little Princess as my starting point and built out a full creative package around it which included an original movie poster, book cover art, and a retelling of the text. The goal was to stay true to what makes Sara Crewe's story so compelling while bringing a fresh visual and narrative perspective to it.

Poster Design & Book Cover Sketches:
My sketches focus on a girl seen from behind, a pose that naturally draws out the sense of mystery and introspection at the heart of Sara's character. The costume design takes cues from 1900s London, with period-accurate bows and frocks grounding the figure in the world of the story. Some compositions also bring in elements of the London skyline to set the scene. For the title treatment, I chose a script font to reflect the elegance of the era.

Book Specimen:
The book cover mirrors the poster design, creating a cohesive visual identity across both pieces. For the typesetting, I used Sabon LT Pro, a typeface that feels well-suited to the period and tone of the story. Attention was given to the finer details of layout, including managing orphans and widows and adding running heads throughout. The drop cap references the original book's cover, using Dancing Script to tie the design back to its source.
